A Peru Family Soft Adventure tour package is an ideal vacation combining mountain biking in Puno, day excursions and hikes in the Sacred Valley and a one day trek on the Inca Trail into Machu Picchu.  The entire family can join in on this active adventure vacation around the highlights of Peru. Day 03 PUNO - Mountain Biking
5 - 6 Hour relatively easy and semi-strenuous ride with support vehicle from Juliaca to the Southeast  portion of the Lake Titicaca located in the border between Peru and Bolivia.  Return back by Puno overnight.

Day 04 Cusco / Sacred Valley - Urubamba Valley
Morning flight from Puno to Cusco.  Pick up and tour Pisac Market & Ollantaytambo ruins. Overnight Ollantaytambo.

Day 05 - Urubamba / Sacred Valley
Moray, Maras Salt Pools and Authentic Quechua Village.  Overnight Ollantaytambo

Day 06 -URUBAMBA VALLEY - Malaga Pass Mountain Bike
Head to Malaga Pass, (Optional) Mountain bike down to Santa Maria with support vehicle and guide.  Overnight Casa Andina Private Collection.

Day 07 - Urubama Valley - Machu Picchu
Early morning train ride to trail head of original Inca Trail at mile marker 106.  Hike the Inca Trial to Machu Picchu.  Enroute box lunch.  Overnight Inkaterra Pueblo

Day 08 - Machu Picchu / Cusco
Morning guided tour of Machu Picchu. Optional hike up Huayna Picchu.  Afternoon train and back to Cusco.  Overnight Cusco.

Day 09 - Cusco

Detail Day-To-Day Itinerary

Day 01 Arrival into Lima Peru. Overnight at Ramada Costa del Sol Arrival.

Day 02 LIMA / PUNO (B, L)
Fly from Lima to  Juliaca.  Morning boat ride on Lake Titicaca to visit the Uros Indian and Taquile Island at Lake Titikaka - This full day excursion will take you to the highest navigable lake in the world, to visit the floating islands of the Uros Indians, considered themselves Lords of the Lake, and they were convinced they had black blood because they did not feel the cold of the lake and the winter. Continuing to Taquile where a native community of about 400 families still lives with the traditions of the XIV century that respect the principals of an Incan way life. Taquile is a very important site on Lake Titikaka for its a archeological remains, the sacred and ceremonial sites, the festive activities, their rituals and for the daily life of the inhabitants which is dedicated to farming, textile production and fishing. (9 hour tour) Overnight Puno at the Casa Andina Private Collection.

Day 03 PUNO - Mountain Biking
Morning departure and pickup at  7am travel by Van to city of Juliaca.  Mountain biking tour begins from here  as with support vehicle and guide.  We began our biking tour by the northeast part of Lake Titicaca, riding extensive plains, small typical towns in the Andes dedicated to the agriculture and raising Llama and Alpaca. We take a short break at one of the artisan fairs of one the small towns on the way.  Cross the Lampa and Ramis rivers, after a 2 hours of riding and arrive at Elestrecho de Arapa, with panoramic view of lake Titicaca.  Our route is relatively easy and there are some ascents over some small hills with elevation gains of 600 feet or more.  A support vechile will be available the entire trip.  Lunch served enroute and the journey will end at the Southeast of the lake, arriving at the Huancane, Vilque Chico, Moho and finally to Conima village located in the border between Peru and Bolivia, Conima has a spectacular landscape where there are views of the northeast part of La Cordillera Real, crosses the Andes of Bolivia.
After 5 - 6 hours of mountain bike, approximately 20 miles. Return to Puno back by Puno overnight. Relatively easy and semi-strenuous ride.

Day 04 Cusco / Sacred Valley - Urubamba Valley  (B, L)
Morning flight from Puno to Cusco.  Meet and greet your tour guide at the Cusco airport. Departure for a drive through the fertile countryside to the colonial village of Pisac. During your visit to the bustling marketplace you will have the opportunity to bargain with the natives for many different types of Peruvian handicrafts and jewelry. After lunch the tour continues to the village of Ollantaytambo for a visit to its impressive Inca fortress. (L) (9 hour tour) Overnight Ollantaytambo.


Day 05 - Urubamba / Sacred Valley (B, L)
Moray, Maras Salt Pools and Authentic Quechua Village
Morning excursion to the Inca agricultural experimental center of Moray, famous for its sunken amphitheater, made up of four circular terraces, which appear to disappear into the earth like an artificial crater. The site was apparently an Inca agricultural research station designed for experimenting with crops at various altitudes (some of which run down to depths of 100 meters). It is believed that the terraces, built over containing walls filled with fertile earth and watered by complex irrigation systems, enabled the Incas to grow more than 250 plant species.
Continue to the impressive Maras salt pools formed by water emerging from a lake inside a mountain in the Urubamba Valley. An amazing view of evaporating ponds for the extraction of salt. Learn about ancestral techniques, which are still used, in agricultural, irrigation and salt-recollection tasks, as well as in Andean festivals and rites. After lunch, visit an authentic Quechua Village to feel the way of life of the Inca's ancestors. The Inca himself was a noble Quechua. They live off the land and are always wearing their colorful ponchos, see Quechua children scamper about while woman are weaving their family's clothes. (9-Hours tour)  Overnight Ollantaytambo

Day 06 -URUBAMBA VALLEY - Malaga Pass Mountain Bike
Morning departure up into the high Andes past Ollantaytambo through the Tastayoc Valley to the Malaga Pass (4,650m). Crossing over the Andes we descend into the lush cloud forest of the Vilcabambarange. With the support vehicle and guide you have the option ride mountain bikes down the Andean road stopping to visit many of the Quechua families living in this highland cloud forest habitat. At the small Andean village of Santa Maria.  Return back Ollantaytambo overnight.

Day 07 - Urubama Valley - Machu Picchu
Transfer from hotel to station of Poroy at 6:50 AM, we will take the train until the 106 Km. At this point we will star our trek, we will visit Chachabamba Archeological Group (2170 m.a.s.l.) Then we will walk until Winaywayna (2650 m.a.s.l.) per 3 hours aprox. (Box lunch). In the afternoon we will walk to Inti Punku, here we will have a spectacular view of Machupicchu, after that we'll keep walking to get Machupicchu but just for a moment because then we go down to Aguas Calientes by bus. After have the dinner we'll spend the night in a hotel. Overnight Inkaterra Pueblo

Day 08 - Machu Picchu / Cusco
We will take a bus from Aguas Calientes to Machu Picchu at 5:30 a.m. we will have a guided tour in Machu Picchu (2 hours aprox) them we will have some free time for take pictures and you could climb to Wayna Picchu or walk in Machu Picchu. After that we'll get down by bus to Aguas Calientes town where we'll take the train to Cusco . OPTIONAL: visit to Wayna Picchu..  Overnight Cusco.

Day 09 - Cusco
During the walking tour of the ancient capital of the Inca Empire, visitors are easily caught up in the excitement of this city. The tour includes a visit to the Cathedral and Santo Domingo Church, passing through the city's main streets and the Plaza de Armas. You will walk through some of Cusco's most astonishing streets to reach the San Blas Church. (2h 1/2.)  Afternoon free.  Overnigh Casa Andina

Day 10 - Cusco / Lima

Day 1 - Lima

Arrive into Lima, transfer and overnight in Miraflores.

Day 2 - Lima Cusco
Arrive into Cusco afternoon and check into your hotel.  Afternoon walking tour of Cusco.  Overnight at a pre-selected hotel in Cusco.

Day 03 - Cusco -

Full day tour of the Sacred Valley of the Incas.  Visit with an expert guide the village of Pisac and the Inca fortress of Ollantaytambo.  Retuirn to Cusco and overnight at the pre-selected hotel.  This evening meet your guide along with the other guest in your trekking party with a pre trek / hiking meeting.

 

Day 04-  Cusco to Hiking Trail Head - Hike to 1st Mountain Lodge
This morning your hiking guide and driver will pick you up around 7:00am and transport you along with your fellow hikers in your group to the start of today’s hike (2 – 3 van ride to trail head).   En route we will take a short break to visit the Inca ruins of Tarawasi, after leaving we continue to a small mountain village before we begin our hike, which is a moderate hike to the first lodge with plenty of stops for lunch, pictures and rest. This is a good opportunity for everyone to acclimate and enjoy a mild & beautiful 4 to 5 hour trek. On arrival to the lodge, the lodge staff will be waiting pass out room keys and give you time to relax, take a dip in the hot tub before an evening briefing and dinner. (L,D)

DAY 5 – Overnight 1st Mountain Lodge
This day begins with a full breakfast and a 1/2 day moderate to challenging hike up to a glacial lake a few miles above the lodge approximately 3 or 4 hours. The majestic Andes mountain range is the back drop to this crystal clear turquoise lake.  If the weather is clear, there are picture postcard panoramic views of the valley and the snow peak mountain ranges.  Afternoon, a hot lunch is served at the lodge.  Remainder of the afternoon is free to relax, go bird watching, read or take a nap.  Evening briefing about the next day’s trek before dinner is served.  Breakfast, lunch and dinner included. (Hiking time:  3-4 hours. Hiking moderate to semi-challenging)

DAY 6 - Hike to 2nd Lodge
Early morning wake up and a hardy full breakfast are on the agenda.  The morning is spent hiking up the Rio Blanco Valley to the Salkantay Mountain pass. Our Hike starts with a moderate climb, plenty of resting stops to take pictures, refresh and hydrate are taken as you work your way up to the top of the pass at over 15,000 feet.  At the top speculator views a wait you with snow-capped peaks of the Vilcabamba Range in every direction.  Condors are very common and often visible during the hike.  From the top we continue our descent towards the next lodge for the evening.  A hot lunch is prepared and served en route.  Arrival to the next lodge is early to late afternoon, enough time to relax before dinner and the briefing for the next day. (Hiking time: 4-6 hours. Total excursion time for day: 5-7 hours. Hiking level: moderate to challenging with a 15,000ft mountain pass).
 

Day 7 - Hike to 3rd Lodge
Today we resume our hike after a good night’s sleep, hot shower and a leisurely breakfast.  Our hike begins with our elevation at 12,500 feet and ends at 9,500 feet through increasingly lush green scenery. Today is a fairly short hike all downhill.  We arrive at our next lodge in time for lunch and an afternoon to take a nap, relax or enjoy the hot tub.  This lodge has panoramic views of the flourishing abundant green mountains which surrounds the area. Dinner and overnight.  (Hiking time:  3-4hours) Hiking level:  easy to moderate)

Day 08 – Hike to 4th Lodge
Early morning rise with a full breakfast served by the lodge staff.  Our hike today leads us down the Santa Teresa River Valley, through more populated rural areas with coffee plantations. Today’s trek follows along the river through a lush green trail with many types of birds, flowers, granadillas, orchards cloud forest vegetation and foliage.  A hot lunch picnic is served in route before we arrive at a stopping point of the trail.  Here we will board a private van that will take our group to the beginning of the “Llactapata Inca Trail”.  From the trail head it is a short climb to our next lodge, set in an avocado orchard.  We arrive in time to relax before our pre-dinner briefing and dinner.  (Hiking time: 5-6 hours. Total excursion time for day: 6-8 hours. Hiking level: moderate to challenging, basically due to distance, not terrain).
 

Day 09   Hike to Aguas Caliente, Overnight in Hotel (elevation from 6,900 to 6,200)
Breakfast is served early again before our last day trekking uphill for 2-3 hours towards Llactapata pass (2,700 m/8,900ft). Here off in the distance we can view Machu Picchu across the valley from the southwest, a view few travelers every experience.  Llactapata Ruins recently restored is a great resting stop before lunch is provided at the observatory, in view of Machu Picchu. We then begin our final descent to the Aobamba River through lush bamboo forests and more orchards and coffee plantations (2-3 hour descent). Aguas Calientes and Machu Picchu are a short (30 minutes), scenic train ride away. (Total hiking time: 4-6 hours. Hiking level: moderate to challenging). We then arrive in Aguas Calientes to check-in to our hotel for the night.

Day 10 –  Aguas Caliente – Machu Picchu - Cusco
We wake up early to have breakfast at the hotel and then make our way to the bus station for the ride up to Machu Picchu (30 min). A complete guided tour of Machu Picchu will be provided (2 hours). Guests will have about 4 additional hours to explore the site on their own (there is a lot to do and see). Afterwards, we will return by bus to Aguas Calientes for lunch and to go to the train station for the afternoon departure. The train takes us to Ollantaytambo (1½ hrs), where a private vehicle awaits to take us to Cusco (1 ½ hrs). Upon arrival in Cusco (approximately 7-8pm) you will be dropped off at your hotel of their choice and bid farewell to your new friends made over the past week.
 

Day 11   Cusco - Home
Today is a free day to travel to another part of Peru or depart to Lima for your return trip back home.
